About the project

The Fiji Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), sponsored by the National Science Foundation, takes students to the islands of Fiji to learn archaeology and cultural anthropology in a unique, applied, field school setting.

The Fiji NSF REU, directed by anthropologist Dr. Sharyn Jones, provides an educational experience for undergraduates through hands-on research with a chance to earn academic credit.
By conducting anthropological research students who participate in the program acquire a great deal of practical, skill-based knowledge and experiential learning.

By participating in this program, students will have the opportunity to learn about ethnoarchaeology, field archaeology, and methods of participation observation. Additionally, all students will make a meaningful contribution to the understanding the lifeways of Fijian peoples.

This program is supported by NSF award SMA – 13599547.
